The Sheffield Documentary Festival has asked me to produce and chair a session this year. It will take place during the festival, on June 10th 2011, from 9:45-11:15 a.m. at the Lyceum.
The other speakers will be Ann Julienne, Head if International Development at France Télévisions, David Glover, Head of Science at Channel4, and Bernd Wilting, CEO of Taglicht Media GmbH
I've attached a blurb of the session below. More information can be obtained in the "sessions" section of the Sheffield Docfest's website: http://sheffdocfest.com/sessions/view/1908
SESSION DESCRIPTION: NO MORE COPRODUCTIONS
The global financial crisis resulted in a significant dip in commissions. Now a new challenge has to be tackled, and this time it's much closer to home. International coproductions are becoming rare, not only because there is less ready cash available that make them worthwhile, but also because broadcasters are more and more focused on regional subjects that don't travel. This means that the corridor for for commercial blue chips is narrowing. The same is true for more ambitious author-driven films. This session seeks to sound the market, not only to provide an accurate diagnose of this pressing systemic problem, but also to find strategies to overcome it, from sponsorship to 3D and multimedia.
